  Gift Gorgeously Hello friends! It has been quite some time since we’ve last crossed paths and I am so sorry for my absence. Life has been unimaginably hectic these last six months and the chaos prompted me to take a much needed break. I needed to find ways to make time for myself in order to handle/balance all of life’s stressors. Since we last chatted, I’ve actually discovered a favorite new way to pamper myself at the end of those crazy days, and it started with my skincare routine. We all know stress can get the best of us in more ways than just the mental aspect, but physically I began to look exhausted and my happy glow was replaced with unwanted acne/blemishes. I have been an avid Mario Badescu user for over 2 years now and swear by his products. I usually try my best to stay on top of it, but it can be hard when you’re running around with lots to accomplish. That’s when this little hydration saver comes in. I love using this gel mask at night to leave on while I’m sleeping. I keep it in the refrigerator so the cooling effect really helps calm my skin during application. I was nervous, excited, and my head was swimming with all of those I’m-in-over-my-head-what-did-I-get-myself-into feelings that come along with taking the big leap towards career advancement. A new co-worker, whose desk was next to mine, turned to face me in his swivel-chair. “So what are you into?” He asked. I turned to look at him, dumbfounded. “What?” I asked. “You know, what sort of stuff do you like? What are your hobbies?” There was a time in my life where I would have been able to answer that question in a matter of seconds. Growing up I loved dance, theater, piano, writing music, writing plays, you name it. I was a quintessential “creative.” But now I don’t really do any of those things. “I like to read,” I answered finally, but the answer felt contrived, like something I’d say in a job interview. I mean, I wasn’t lying. I do love to read. But in reality I was lucky to finish a book a month, even when I said I’d finish one a week. So what was I into? What did I spend all my time doing? The answer probably won’t surprise you: Social media and Netflix had taken over my free time. WHY ARE WE LESS PRODUCTIVE THAN WE'VE EVER BEEN BEFORE? Tweet This! Facebook was by far the worst time-suck of them all. I’d be working on a homework assignment and the moment my brain let its guard down, I’d open Facebook without even thinking about it. I didn’t even have to type in the entire URL anymore; Google recognized where I wanted to go after I typed three letters.   An assignment that should have taken me 45 minutes ended up taking me three hours. By the time I finished, I was too tired to go out and do anything else. It turns out that this happened most every night. Mindless social media, a few episodes of Netflix, and then it was time for bed. By the time I crawled underneath the covers, scrolling through Instagram for a few minutes seemed far more appealing than picking up the book on my bedside table. Technology is cool. With new technological advancements, we can complete tasks in seconds that once took all day. Why, then, are we less productive than we’ve ever been before? Why don't we seem to have time for hobbies? The answer isn’t hard to find. Hobbies are, quite simply, a form of entertainment. Who needs to actively pursue their own entertainment anymore, when an endless wealth of it can be found with a click of a button? It’s easier to mindlessly click from website to website, Facebook post to Facebook post, than it is to say "I like x thing or y thing, I should do this more often" and actually follow through. WE DON’T ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING IN THAT PLACE, AND WE DON’T ENJOY OURSELVES EITHER. Tweet This! I want to be clear: I’m not bashing an evening of relaxation. We all need a movie marathon in our pajamas every now and again. I don’t want to discourage an evening off after a long day of hard work. But I do want to discourage that mindless place we go, as we sit at our computers or on our phones at night that is halfway between work and procrastination. We don’t accomplish anything in that place and we don’t enjoy ourselves either. Have you ever heard the phrase “Be interested, not interesting?” To me, this phrase means many things. In the traditional sense, the phrase means we should actively listen to others in conversations, rather than just waiting for our turn to talk. However, to me it also means that we should actively pursue our interests and passions, doing the things we love with un-ironic enthusiasm and excitement. It's getting to that time of the year again (or should I say, it's been that time of the year since September!). But despite my disdain for Christmas beginning in September in most shops, I have decided to do something seasonal. In the next WebBoss update (version 2.5.2), I have included some new Custom Tags to give you some nifty weather effects to add to your website! "Why would I want some nifty weather effects" I hear you say — well, to give your website a unique feature, something to make you stand out from the crowd. With people online for hours at a time on a daily basis, they will see hundreds of different websites where snap decisions are made about whether they remember yours, or even if they will stay on it long enough to see what you have to offer! With that little edge to catch people's attention, it may just be enough to make your visitors become customers which is especially important when you are competing against so many other websites that are trying to grab attention to make sales this Christmas. Obviously, throwing in gimmicks just anywhere can also be your downfall by turning people away, which is why fancy effects and the like need to be used well and subtly within a design. Just enough to be noticed, but not too much to be overpowering. Enter, my Winter Wonderland theme. To demonstrate this, I have created a brand new, free theme which uses one of the new tags: "create_snow". This theme can be found on the WebBoss Marketplace to download and try out or modify to your own ends. This theme takes on a winter scene and incorporates the snow effect in the background. Due to the layout of the design, the snow is only really visible on the main hero image, and the bottom spacer block which lets some of the background image show through. This creates a hopefully unobtrusive effect, which enhances the overall design rather than detracting from it. So how do I use these nifty tags? The new weather tags can be used in the main HTML template of your theme (so that the effect appears on every page) or you can just include it a per page basis. To use the tags in your HTML, include one of the following: [create_snow] [create_rain] [create_fog] [create_lightning]   Alternatively, if you would rather use these on a per-page basis, you can type them directly into your page text via the Page Editor like so:   Here are some small screenshots to show how the weather effects look, but they will look their best when you view them in action!       But if you don't fancy implementing them yourself, head over to the Marketplace and download the Winter Wonderland theme to spruce up your website this winter!...

Am I really stuck in a car with you for the next three hours while we drive to Grandma’s? How am I going to survive these holiday visits when my family is so boring?! Does this sound like you? Do you need an escape from the boredom that comes with holiday family get-togethers? Never fear, friends. I’ve compiled a list of some action-packed anime to give your obligatory visits a much-needed shot of adrenaline. GANGSTA. Image credit: FUNimation   Worick and Nicolas are known as the “Handymen.” Working for both the police and the mob as a neutral force, they take care of business when neither side can handle it. Nicolas served as Worick’s bodyguard for sometime, but a single violent act two years ago sealed their bond of friendship. Nic is deaf, but has extraordinary lip reading skills and is deadly with a blade… almost to a superhuman level.Gangsta. is a solid choice if you enjoy anti-heroes, and it’s one of the hottest new series out of Japan. However, Gangsta.‘s production company, Manglobe, filed for bankruptcy, so it could be a while before someone else picks it up… if someone picks it up. TRIGUN Image credit: FUNimation   “Vash the Stampede” earned his nickname for being a whirlwind of destruction. Insurance agents Meryl and Millie track the nomadic gunman, only to find that the “humanoid typhoon” isn’t a bad guy at all. It’s all the bounty hunters trying to collect the six million double dollar (yes, “dollar dollars”) price on his head that’s causing massive destruction. Vash teams up with Wolfwood, an enigmatic priest on his quest to protect the innocent, but Vash’s lost past has a dark… and very destructive secret. NOIR Image credit: FUNimation   Mireille and Kirika are master assassins. Both always worked solo until their paths cross and they realize they have a mysterious connection. Mireille agrees to help Kirika uncover her memories, and they start working together under the code name Noir. However, “Noir” is an ancient title granted by the secret organization Les Soldats, and they want to make sure the pair is worthy to use the name. Of course, “making sure” involves attempting to kill them. Yuki Kajiura’s soundtrack alone is enough to make this series worth checking out. She’s the composer behind Puella Magi Modoka Magica,Fate/Zero, Sword Art Online, .hack/Sign, and Tsubasa Chronicle. Noir can get a little repetitive, but it’s pretty enjoyable in a “girl power” kind of way. BLACK LAGOON Image Credit: Viz Media   Japanese businessman Rokuro Okajima leads a dull and difficult corporate life until he goes on a business trip in the south China sea, where he promptly gets taken hostage by the Lagoon Company. Like, within three minutes of the first episode “promptly.” Okajima’s boss needs to cover up the information he carried with him on the trip, and leaves the underling for dead. With no prospects ahead of him, Okajima decides to work with his ragtag captors and embark on a life of danger on the high seas. The series is filled with gunplay and swearing, but it’s the variety of interesting characters that makes Black Lagoon such a fun romp.
