New GIPHY plugin!
A brand new way to write content! Watch a video instead! Click here :) On your Blog or Page Editor, you will see a shiny new icon which we think is very exciting: a Giphy plugin! Clicking this will delve you into the strange and random world of animated GIFs, where you will have a few options available to you: Here's a quick run down of what each button does:   Search:   Advanced Search allows you to filter your results slightly: Selecting "translate" will let you search a word or phrase and find the perfect GIF which represents that!   Selecting and Embedding a GIF:   On any of button results, hovering over a GIF will give you a button overlay which lets you select that GIF and embed it in your page (this example shows the Trending GIFs result directly from Giphy.com!   Embed Options:   Once you have selected a GIF, you can choose to embed it into you page/blog straight away, or you can use the icons below for some additional options. The icons are as follows: Link to view the GIF on Giphy.com Share link to GIF via email View the GIF source website (if available) Download the GIF as a *.gif file Download the GIF as a looping *.MP4 video file   Random GIF search:   For those times when you aren't sure what GIF you really want, or when you just have a few hours to while away pressing a the "Random GIF" button to see what pops up! Each button press will look up a random word from a dictionary file and then do a GIF lookup based on that word!   Reaction GIFs!   Reaction GIFs let you perfectly encapsulate your emotions into one single animated image. If you aren't sure what you're feeling, you can use the Reaction Buttons to narrow it down first.   The Final Result: When you have selected your perfect GIF, simply press the Embed button and it will be inserted into your page/blog with no fuss, just like magic! via GIPHY    ...

This is a blog about Torbay photography
This is a blog about Torbay photography [gallery ids="9,8,7,6" columns="4"] Every year, thousands of tourists flock to Torbay to enjoy the fabulous scenery, many of which will take photographs to remember their holiday here. Some of those visitors will be quite serious about their photographs and will have perhaps spent a considerable amount of money on top class equipment. This site is a place to share some of those images as well as advice and better photography tips.   Caption   Caption  ...

Gift Gorgeously Hello friends! It has been quite some time since we’ve last crossed paths and I am so sorry for my absence. Life has been unimaginably hectic these last six months and the chaos prompted me to take a much needed break. I needed to find ways to make time for myself in order to handle/balance all of life’s stressors. Since we last chatted, I’ve actually discovered a favorite new way to pamper myself at the end of those crazy days, and it started with my skincare routine. We all know stress can get the best of us in more ways than just the mental aspect, but physically I began to look exhausted and my happy glow was replaced with unwanted acne/blemishes. I realized I needed to pay more attention to my skin because at the end of the day healthy glowing skin is the best foundation you can ever have.   So I decided I can’t keep it to myself, I have to share some of my favorite remedies with you. And since it IS the season of giving, why not give the gift of healthy skin? Ulta Beauty is my favorite place to shop and stock up on my skincare necessities. The only bad thing about it is working less than a mile away from a store location, I find myself shopping in there far too much. It all pays off in the end when I can find everything I need to take care of myself in just one place. If you’ve never shopped at Ulta Beauty before, I highly recommend this to be your first time. This holiday season they’ve made gift giving so easy to do for the loved ones on your list with their HolidayGift Guide separating all their best picks by personality. Below are some of my must-have items from their Ageless Beauty Personality.   The Brightening Kit by Mario Badescu is perfect for starters. I have been an avid Mario Badescu user for over 2 years now and swear by his products. I use everything from his Enzyme Cleansing Gel, Cucumber Cleansing Lotion, Super Collagen Face Mask, SPF 30 face moisturizer, Vitamin C Serum, and Rosewater Facial Spray. I al...

Sin SlayerJesus’ death paid for our sins - He was punished so we don’t have to be. Yet we still have the responsibility to put residing sin to death on a daily basis. The same Grace that Justifies - makes us right before God - also Sanctifies - makes us more like Jesus. Two sides of the one coin of salvation: neither can be separated from the other. God is calling us to be a church that gets to the root of the problems and digs it out. …Continue Reading at Mars Hill Church Teignmouth → ...

God before ages becomes an infant!I saw a beautifully sung a capella song the other day of Facebook. It was about the Nativity, the incarnation of Christ. One of the lines in the song really struck me, the profound nature of what God did summed up in a single sentence: Glorify, with the angels and the shepherds, Him who by His own will has become a newborn child, yet is our God before all ages. Let that sink in for a moment before reading this excerpt from one of John Chrysostom’s sermons on…Continue Reading at That Ancient Faith → ...

#ThrowbackThursday
Lately, everyone seems to be having work Christmas parties and here at WebBoss it was no different. Only last week were we all sat down together about to enjoy a nice meal and some drinks as we celebrate this festive season. It was a great night out, and we even had an unexpected magician show up and do some tricks for us! As the evening went on, there was another surprise for everyone: awards! A small "awards ceremony" had been secretly organised to present everyone with some small token of appreciation for the work they've done for WebBoss over the last year. As you can see from the image of my award (above), the reasons for each weren't totally serious! Reflecting on all of this, and looking at how much we've grown as a company in terms of staff and business, it has made me think of all the different events and people who have brought us to this point and got WebBoss to where it is today. WebBoss Xmas Do    A few people will know this already, but WebBoss (as it's known now) started life as a hobby project in my bedroom to make designing website layouts in HTML and CSS less tedious . This was way back in about 2008 and before it even had a name; it was just "my CMS" for lack of a better description or name. It could only create basic HTML/CSS layouts and modify page content. You can see a screenshot on the right of how WebBoss looked back in 2009 – not much to it! Version 1 of WebBoss with limited features! But it's been a fun, interesting and bumpy ride over the years getting to where we are today. Back then, I was coming home from my day job and then sitting down in the evening to code new features until about 2 or 3am before going to bed and doing the whole process again the next day. I didn't sleep much in the early days... When starting to make something more solid of this as some semblance of a business, my dad and I would take a walk around town to find businesses without websites.&nbs...

What Happened to Hobbies?

What Happened to Hobbies?
CONTRIBUTORS COPY BY Daryl Lindsey PHOTOGRAPHY BY Nick Turner It was my first day at my new job. I was nervous, excited, and my head was swimming with all of those I’m-in-over-my-head-what-did-I-get-myself-into feelings that come along with taking the big leap towards career advancement. A new co-worker, whose desk was next to mine, turned to face me in his swivel-chair. “So what are you into?” He asked. I turned to look at him, dumbfounded. “What?” I asked. “You know, what sort of stuff do you like? What are your hobbies?” There was a time in my life where I would have been able to answer that question in a matter of seconds. Growing up I loved dance, theater, piano, writing music, writing plays, you name it. I was a quintessential “creative.” But now I don’t really do any of those things. “I like to read,” I answered finally, but the answer felt contrived, like something I’d say in a job interview. I mean, I wasn’t lying. I do love to read. But in reality I was lucky to finish a book a month, even when I said I’d finish one a week. So what was I into? What did I spend all my time doing? The answer probably won’t surprise you: Social media and Netflix had taken over my free time. WHY ARE WE LESS PRODUCTIVE THAN WE'VE EVER BEEN BEFORE? Tweet This! Facebook was by far the worst time-suck of them all. I’d be working on a homework assignment and the moment my brain let its guard down, I’d open Facebook without even thinking about it. I didn’t even have to type in the entire URL anymore; Google recognized where I wanted to go after I typed three letters.   An assignment that should have taken me 45 minutes ended up taking me three hours. By the time I finished, I was too tired to go out and do anything else. It turns out that this happened most every night. Mindless social med...

Seasonal Weather Effects!

Seasonal Weather Effects!
It's getting to that time of the year again (or should I say, it's been that time of the year since September!). But despite my disdain for Christmas beginning in September in most shops, I have decided to do something seasonal. In the next WebBoss update (version 2.5.2), I have included some new Custom Tags to give you some nifty weather effects to add to your website! "Why would I want some nifty weather effects" I hear you say — well, to give your website a unique feature, something to make you stand out from the crowd. With people online for hours at a time on a daily basis, they will see hundreds of different websites where snap decisions are made about whether they remember yours, or even if they will stay on it long enough to see what you have to offer! With that little edge to catch people's attention, it may just be enough to make your visitors become customers which is especially important when you are competing against so many other websites that are trying to grab attention to make sales this Christmas. Obviously, throwing in gimmicks just anywhere can also be your downfall by turning people away, which is why fancy effects and the like need to be used well and subtly within a design. Just enough to be noticed, but not too much to be overpowering. Enter, my Winter Wonderland theme. To demonstrate this, I have created a brand new, free theme which uses one of the new tags: "create_snow". This theme can be found on the WebBoss Marketplace to download and try out or modify to your own ends. This theme takes on a winter scene and incorporates the snow effect in the background. Due to the layout of the design, the snow is only really visible on the main hero image, and the bottom spacer block which lets some of the background image show through. This creates a hopefully unobtrusive effect, which enhances the overall design rather than detracting from it. So how do I use these nifty tags? The new weather tags can be used in ...

Four Blood Moons and everyone loses their minds

thatancientfaith | | That Ancient Faith, Rapture
Four Blood Moons and everyone loses their minds: According to NASA, there are about two lunar eclipses per year. This time there happens to be four all within 18 months - something astronomers call a tetrad.I’m slightly surprised I’ve not seen much about this yet (maybe a good thing?), but it does seem as though this is an event certain Christians have been waiting for - and writing books about! I came across this on a recent Huffington Post article which gives this story also about church leaders saying these moons are “an omen of Armageddon and Second Coming of Christ”, but I’m not so sure about that....

Exodus 7: Heart Matters

thatancientfaith | | That Ancient Faith, sermons
Exodus 7: Heart Matters: In Exodus, the Israelites had forgotten that He was God as they were now slaves and had been worn down by the pressures of life. But God had promised them an inheritance. This is for the church today also. He knows all that is going on and He has promised. ‘I will pour out my Spirit on all people: I will show wonders in the heavens and on earth: and every one who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ Life is eternal. People need Jesus and He has chosen us to be the people to demonstrate His love to others. Jesus came to earth and loved us enough to be ridiculed for us, to take the sins of us all, to be punished so we can go free. If He gave His all for us, then we should make ourselves available to Him. He wants us to make His church full of people who nobody loves but who we can show love to. ...

Exodus 6: Inheritance pt 2: Abram and Sarai grew up in Ur amidst many foreign gods who they always needed to try to appease. They were a wealthy couple who had high status in their country, yet something profound happened in them when they were so impacted by the Living God and they packed up all they had and decided to go somewhere, not knowing exactly where. They gave up everything for Him. Challenge: Are we ready to give up everything we know at the drop of a hat when God tells us what He wants us to do? Do we give our lives enough to Jesus, giving up everything we have to Him?http://www.marshillchurchteignmouth.co.uk...

Exodus 6: Inheritance

thatancientfaith | | That Ancient Faith, israel
Exodus 6: Inheritance: The average woman in the UK spends half a million pounds on fashion over their lifetime. The Fashion business is worth £26 billion. We spend 90,000 hours working at our jobs in a lifetime. The average UK Woman spends 310,000 on cosmetics in a lifetime, a £300 billion industry. The housing market in UK is worth over £5 trillion. Why?Because what we have and what we earn, and how we look is what defines us. Title, status, exam grades, qualifications, all make up our identity.Israel wasn’t that different. God had promised Abraham that he would be the father of nations. That he would inherit a land…The problem is, it was never just about the land and the power and status it would bring, it was what the land meant. They had forgotten the great I am - Yahweh, the covenant keeping God, the God who was to be their inheritance, their identity. The land was more than just a commodity or a place to live, it was their identity. The promised land meant provision, freedom, salvation from slavery, and it was this that God wanted for Israel’s inheritance. I believe God wants to remind them as he does us today, that he is the one that defines us…...

The next fifty years in this country (the UK), and the U.S. — the West in general especially really — is going to be very interesting for society; for the Church. Mainly for the Church. Society is going through a major shift, almost on a global scale. A great divide is coming and will hit the Church over issues of sexuality and marriage. More so than it might already seem. ...

The Heartbleed Bug

Luke Wilson | | Facebook Tests, Business News
The Heartbleed Bug
The Heartbleed Bug is a serious vulnerability in the popular OpenSSL cryptographic software library. This weakness allows stealing the information protected, under normal conditions, by the SSL/TLS encryption used to secure the Internet. SSL/TLS provides communication security and privacy over the Internet for applications such as web, email, instant messaging (IM) and some virtual private networks (VPNs). The Heartbleed bug allows anyone on the Internet to read the memory of the systems protected by the vulnerable versions of the OpenSSL software. This compromises the secret keys used to identify the service providers and to encrypt the traffic, the names and passwords of the users and the actual content. This allows attackers to eavesdrop on communications, steal data directly from the services and users and to impersonate services and users. What leaks in practice? We have tested some of our own services from attacker's perspective. We attacked ourselves from outside, without leaving a trace. Without using any privileged information or credentials we were able steal from ourselves the secret keys used for our X.509 certificates, user names and passwords, instant messages, emails and business critical documents and communication. How to stop the leak? As long as the vulnerable version of OpenSSL is in use it can be abused. Fixed OpenSSL has been released and now it has to be deployed. Operating system vendors and distribution, appliance vendors, independent software vendors have to adopt the fix and notify their users. Service providers and users have to install the fix as it becomes available for the operating systems, networked appliances and software they use. Q&A What is the CVE-2014-0160? CVE-2014-0160 is the official reference to this bug. CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures) is the Standard for Information Security Vulnerability Names maintained by MITRE. Due to co-incident discovery a duplicate CVE, CVE-2014-0...

How to Start a Blog (part 3)

Ask yourself what you have to offer that is different from what other people are already doing. Identifying your niche will give your blog an angle that distinguishes it from your competitors. ...

How to Start a Blog (part 2)

Lewk | | General Articles, Blogging
Think about how you want to help people. While you want to know your broad subject area, you need to focus your blog topics more narrowly, so that it has a clear purpose. Here are some ideas for ways that your blog can connect with your intended audience: Teach something. If you're passionate about a particular subject, and you have a lot of experience in that area, then you can offer your knowledge to both people who are new to the subject and others who are as experienced as you are. Provide the latest news and trends. Write about the latest developments related to your topic. You want to be someone who's viewed as the ultimate insider so that you can continue to increase your blog's readership. Make people laugh. Are you the funniest person you know? No matter what your subject area, you can present your experiences and thoughts in a humorous way that will really resonate with people. Inspire others. Have you overcome an obstacle, such as a serious illness or a difficult life experience? Do you want to turn your challenges into something that will inspire others to overcome their problems? If that's the case, then make your blog inspirational. Know what not to blog about too. Your workplace, your coworkers, your family members, etc. may take a dim view of anything on your blog if it blows open secrets, shares confidential information, makes fun of people you work or live with, or causes other people trouble. Know the limits––check with your workplace what is and is not permissible by way of personal blogging and ask your mates and family before including them in your posts. ...

How to Start a Blog (part 1)

Ask yourself what you love, care about or wish to share with others. If you're going to write about something regularly and keep your blog fresh with new information, then you need to write about something that stokes your passion or that reflects your daily experience. Try some of these ideas to get your creative juices flowing: Politics. Sure, everyone has an opinion about politics, but you may have a unique point of view that needs to be heard. Food. Who doesn't love good food? Share your recipes, start writing reviews of the local cuisine scene or write about how the food that you ate in China was nothing like the food that Chinese restaurants serve in the United States of America. Movies. Reviews of movies, old and new, are always fun for movie buffs. And if you keep it fresh by adding clips and pull from sources that nobody else is using, you could have a hit blog on your hands. Cars. Are you a car enthusiast? Post pictures of your favorite new models or reports from car shows. Your business. Your blog doesn't have to be a hobby. A blog can be a fantastic tool for connecting with your customers and for providing them with helpful information. ...

Ukraine crisis: US and Russia to hold key talks

Ukraine crisis: US and Russia to hold key talks
US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov are due to hold crucial talks to try to ease tensions over the Ukraine crisis. The US accuses Moscow of deploying troops in Ukraine's Crimea region, describing it as an "act of aggression" - a claim denied by the Kremlin. Despite the sharp differences, both sides have hinted they would prefer to start a dialogue. Moscow remains in de facto control of Ukraine's southern autonomous region. The tense stand-off continued overnight in Crimea, with reports that Russian forces have seized part of a Ukrainian missile defence unit. Continue reading the main story The US is keen to label Russia's action an "invasion" but as yet no one has been shot by the troops, and it is still time for a war of words - on friend as well as foe, as it happens. And in the east Ukrainian city of Donetsk, the regional government building has been evacuated and the area cordoned off amid unconfirmed reports of a bomb scare. Earlier this week tensions escalated over Russia's warnings that it could move beyond Crimea into eastern Ukraine to protect Russians and Russian-speakers there. The move has triggered wide condemnation across the globe. In another development, Nato and Russia will hold talks in Brussels. Nato chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen earlier said Russia continued to "violate Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity". 'Sluggish' talks Mr Kerry and Mr Lavrov are expected to meet on the sidelines of a long-planned conference on Lebanon in Paris. But the gathering is now being seen above all as a chance to test the waters for a dialogue about Ukraine, says the BBC's diplomatic correspondent Bridget Kendall. Ukrainians gathered in Kiev's Independence Square to watch the latest news on a large television screen. US Secretary of State boarded his plane in Kiev to Paris, where he will hold talks with Russia's Sergei Lavrov. The presence of Russian warships are visible from the harbour i...

Crispy Fried Chicken Tenders with Cajun Spices Recipe

Luke Wilson | | General Articles, Chicken
Crispy Fried Chicken Tenders with Cajun Spices Recipe
In a previous post I stated that, “I freaking love chicken tenders.” I maintain the truth of that statement. This is one of my favorite dishes that my mother makes. She just made this recipe up and it’s not related to any specific culture or anything like that. What kills me is that no matter how many times I tried to recreate this recipe, I always fell short. I couldn’t figure it out. Why were my copycat attempts never quite as good as her original recipe? I tried every technique I saw on food television and read online, but still nothing. Finally, I know the secret and it’s far simpler than I would have imagined. As it turns out, my mistake was that I added my spices to the dry bread crumbs or flour (depending on the recipe), when I really should have added them directly to the chicken. It’s such a simple step, but it makes all the difference and it makes perfect sense. When breading chicken tenders, you never really use all of the breading, which is why you lose a ton of the spices mixed in with the breading. By adding the spices directly to the chicken, you ensure that you maximize the impact of the spices. It’s strange that I never really discovered this idea before, but there you have it. Makes about 24 – 20 chicken tenders at about 142 – 170 calories each. Ingredients: 3 pounds of chicken tenderloins (about 20 – 24 pieces at about 90 – 75 calories per piece) 2 large eggs (70 cal. each) 1 teaspoon Cajun Seasoning 1 tablespoon onion powder (about 20 cal.) 1.5 cups of seasoned bread crumbs, but you may need a little more than this to get a good coating. You will have some left over though, which is why it ends up only being 1.5 cups. (about 110 cal. per 1/3 cup or 495 cal. total) 1 cup of vegetable oil (120 cal. per tablespoon, only absorbs about 1/2 cup at 960 cal. total) Equipment: Large bowl Large or medium frying pan Kitchen shears or sharp knife Three large plate...

What is time?

MrLuke | | , Blogging
What is time?
Is this what "time" looks like? Can anyone actually answer the question of "what IS time?"Is it, like some imply, a metaphysical reality - a "place" that we are "in" and God is "out" of? Or something else entirely?Or is it merely just the measurement of events and moments in a way that makes sense to us so that we can plan and do things with some kind of order and structure? If it's the latter, then time is only an illusion. We aren't "moving" through time, it only appears that way because of how we perceive the world, history and the future. In reality, we are all just in a fixed point of moments that we comprehend and experience in our minds. Our bodies, our cells, deteriorate and fail and we get "old", yet we haven't really moved anywhere in time, we've just essentially, "broken down".If time is viewed like this, then God being "in" or "out" of time can make more sense because God doesn't age or brake down, so the illusion continues due to our perspective. But if it's the former idea, and "time" is a metaphysical place that we reside in, and it is also something that has points we move to and from, and is also, in theory, possible to travel within by jumping to a farther or previous point - then God being "in" or "out" of time makes sense in a literal way, but what does it really mean? It's this idea that brings about the weird theologies that we can pray today for a past event and God can intervene because he is "out" of time and can go to that point and do something. Now, does God 'jump' around in this place called "time"? Can he go to the future and see what will happen, or go to the past and intervene in order to affect the future?Or does he just experience and have what we humans only have too: this moment. To act, to affect the course of our day, lives, futures? Only with more insight, wisdom and foresight than we could possibly kno...

Digging through ancient texts

MrLuke | | , Blogging
The Orthodox and Catholics have all the books from the Septuagint, which is what most of the early Christians would have known regarding the Old Testament. Those "extra" books that Protestants call the Deuterocanonical books (or that the general laypeople often refer to as 'The Apocrypha'), they're just part of the Old Testament the same as the more familiar OT books.During the Reformation in the 16th century, Luther decided to remove these books (and planned to remove some New Testament books too) as he believed they weren't canonical and cited Jerome as his authority to make this decision. It was Jerome who, in the 5th century, distinguished between the Hebrew and Greek Old Testaments and said (quite controversially in his day) that those not found in the Hebrew version, were not canonical.Other Christian writings were in some local canons of the New Testament, such as the Didache, the Shepherd of Hermas and writings of Clement, Polycarp, and Ignatius. While they didn't end up being in the canon as we know it today, I think that everyone ought to read them, even if it's just once to see what the early church was reading and saying to each other after the Apostles were gone, or at the end of their era.And this is what started my 'journey' into the older texts. I knew Catholics had "extra" books, but I never really understood why. I also knew the Reformation had something to do with it. So I began to research and, as stated above, I found that Luther removed some books from the OT and also wanted to remove some NT books as well. This led me to a question: How, and on whose authority, did Luther just change the Bible? And why was it accepted? I know that Luther cited Jerome as an authority (and from what I understand so far about Jerome's reasoning against the Deuterocanonical books, I disagree with his decision), but is that ...

Book review on Rob Bell's “Love Wins”

MrLuke | | , Blogging
Book review on Rob Bell's “Love Wins”
This book was quite openly condemned by some prominent Christian leaders when the book was first announced back around Spring 2011, mainly mainly accusing Bell of being a universalist and denying the existence of hell. Lots of leaders formed opinions about the book and thus lots and laypeople took on various opinions as their own without much insight or research. The problem was that these leaders hadn't even READ the book! It wasn't released yet at the time. They decided their opinions based on the blurb and promo video which posed provocative questions about the doctrine of hell. The book starts up asking lots of questions concerning salvation and how are you “attain” it and the consequences if you don't – while the same time pointing out the flaws in modern theology and general beliefs held by many in the Church today. He then presents a lot more question to get you thinking and quotes Jesus' words, and a few other scriptures, which leads to more questions. Therein lies the purpose of this book – not for Rob to push you to believe what he does, but to get you to question and really think about the things we say we believe. Bell then moves on to heaven. Unless you've really studied the Bible on Heaven, this chapter will likely smash a lot of cultural ideas you hold without you really realising it – the same can be said about the the chapter after which deals with hell. Prepare for an eye-opener, and a lot of "Gospel Truth" that has somehow got lost, changed, misrepresented and mixed up in Medieval tradition and imagery over the last few centuries. Anyone who is aware of the controversy that was/is surrounding this book and who heard that that Rob Bell "doesn't believe in hell" can rest assured that this isn't the case. To quote the book, Bell writes: "There is a hell now, and there is a hell later, and Jesus teaches us to ta...

So I'm reading that controversial book.

MrLuke | | , Blogging
So I'm reading that controversial book.
UPDATE (March 2013) - I finally did the rest of the review on this book... even if it is two years later! Better late than never, right? Go and read it now!Love Wins by Rob BellI ordered this a while ago and had been waiting in anticipation for it to arrive. "Love Wins: A book about heaven, hell, and the fate of every person who ever lived" by Rob Bell has been causing quite a stir on the interwebs various corners. I'm sure it's not new news to anyone who listens and watches these things that a few major church leaders quite openly condemned this book and its author because of its subject - before it had even been released and read!Anyway, old news. What I want to talk about is what I have read so far. Right now I am half way through the book and still I'm not really sure what the controversy is about. All the nay-sayers were ranting about Rob Bell now being a "universalist" and that he'd thrown out hell and all that. Well I just read the chapter on hell and here's a quote from it:"There is hell now, and there is hell later, and Jesus teaches us to take both seriously." (pg. 79)So... where's the controversy? In that he says all the injustice, pain, torment, hate, tears, and death that we experience now in this lifetime is just as equal to hell being now as hell being a future place of such things? That when we give up all things good, humane, decent, moral, divine, that we have in some form or other just created a type of hell on earth scenario for people to live in?I don't really see anything so controversial about that.Jesus calls us to do the opposite of these things in the here and now - to bring justice, righteousness, peace, love, morality and goodness to this world now in the form of the Good News, as bringing the Kingdom of God to people around us right now in our very actions. Our actions bring a little bit of heaven and its pr...

I'll cut to the chase: My brand new, very first publication, The Three, is now available on Amazon for Kindle! You can get it here (a free sample is also available): http://amzn.to/ekIUih (or go to the US Kindle store: http://amzn.to/fFrqBG) Now to fill this blog out with something else to make it seem like its not all about plugging my new eBook: a little background. I've been writing stories pretty much all my life. I like to tell stories. When I was really young I'd write small stories and make little "books". That developed into comics and for many years I would draw a comic series that I began in about 1997 and continued until early 2000's, which I then turned into three PC RPG/Adventure games. Then in 2005 I wrote this story (The Three) for an online short story competition - and came in first place! In 2007 I wrote another for another competition called Message in a Bottle which came in 2nd place. In 2009 I wrote another story, called 'Love, Ire and Alcohol'... and as I write this I'm seeing a pattern emerge of when I seem to write! Especially as the latest story (called 'Obsession') I am currently half-way through writing is being written in 2011!Of course, all of these will be available on Amazon Kindle store. 'The Three', and 'Message in a Bottle' (the coming next story) have and are being re-edited and re-written in places as they were originally done with competition word-limit restrictions, so now I'm releasing them to the public I thought I'd take the opportunity to expand on the stories where I couldn't before. So there you have it, a little background about me and my writing! ...

Organic Church

MrLuke | | , Blogging
I was reading an article on Christianity Today (amongst other blogs) earlier on about the subject of "organic church" and its possible success and probable future failures. Now, I'll admit I didn't (don't?) know a great deal about organic church other than I've heard the name thrown about before. According to the article it includes " at least three ingredients" to be counted as "organic". First being "Frustration with the-church-as-we-know-it" - well I'm sure there's quite a few people who would fall into that category, I know I do! The second ingredient for this recipe for church is "a focus on people (vs. programs)" - now this is another point I reckon a fair few church-goers could relate to. I know we like to say the focus is on people, but there are times that come to mind where it's meant to have been about the people, but the project became the focus. With phrases like "it's our baby" and taking all the ownership of a project too heavily. Not that feeling a sense of ownership is necessarily a bad thing, but maybe when having a project means more to you than the impact it's having on the people it was initially intended for, then maybe it has become a bad thing and the program or project defines you rather than the other way around. We all like control and the feeling of our own little empires, but I believe Jesus was more about giving up those desires to follow the Kingdom and its principles - which is definitely people focussed. If a program isn't reaching people in a positive way, yet we cling onto keeping it alive and running, then we have lost the focus and care more for our own thing than for people.I'm not saying all churches are like this, far from it, just that we ought to be aware of such things happening. Especially if we are serious about "doing" church right, doing it "the Jesus way" (if there is such a thing), expanding the ...

Hell and all that damnable stuff

MrLuke | | , Blogging
So on light of all the Rob Bell controversy, it resparked my desire to look into the traditional doctrine of hell. My thoughts on it all began long ago before I went to study theology about 5 or so years ago now. A good close friend of mine was struggling in her faith over the traditional hell concept and found it hard to rectify or justify in her mind. It was the usual question of "how can a loving God burn people forever?" infinite punishment for finite crimes. I had thought about it before then but never in any great depth as I just didn't know where to begin, being a fairly new Christian at the time. I did my best to try work out an answer with my friend as we talked over Scripture, Jesus and God's nature but ultimately she lost her faith (though what her spiritual state of mind is now, I don't know). I don't know for certain if this was the cause or just one of the main deciding factors, but regardless, it damaged her once very passionate faith in God. And it was sad, I was quite upset and mainly at my own failings in being able to help more despite not knowing much in detail about the faith back then.Nevertheless, this has always stuck with me all these years. I've never stopped thinking about the concept of hell and it implications and whether it really is as clear cut in the bible. I wasn't sure but in the times where i didn't understand fully, I just left it to God and decided that I'm sure he knows what he is doing with people once they passed on.Then I went to Mattersey Hall and studied theology and biblical studies for 3 years. To be honest this didn't help much with the problem of hell. I studied the afterlife in the Old Testament as part of one of my courses and that just added to confusion. The afterlife is a vert strange concept in the OT. But I never got to study the New Testament concept of hell. Now I'm taking the opportunity to ...

The law is an ass

MrLuke | | , Blogging
Today I read some articles on a court case against a Christian foster couple. They were apparently banned from fostering because if their beliefs against advocating homosexuality, despite them saying they would still look after and care for someone who was gay. Now as annoying as this kind of "new" persecution against Christians can be, it's not really that which annoys me most. What gets me is that in one article it was quoted as saying that matters of sexual orientation take precedence over matters of conscience on the basis of "equality". When.. Or rather, how, did the law end up like this? How has it become that having a clear conscience of your actions is second to whether you like men or women? I understand there are lots of issues with homosexuality and prejudices and hate towards people, but I still can't see how defending who people want to be with has become more important than some form of justice. Plus, it's meant to be about being equal etc - well how is it equal to those with differing moral standards? This is why I think human rights and equality can't always work together; one way or the other something has got to give in order to let the other "right" be exercised. And once it does, the balance is tipped and it's not so equal anymore. But with homosexual rights being pushed so much by the govt., it doesn't matter who else loses their right to their freedom of expression and life or morals, as long as gay people don't feel marginalised. Sometimes I think the law cares more about protecting peoples feelings than anything else these days...Article Link: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/religion/8353180/Foster-parents-defeated-by-the-new-Inquisition.html...

Controversy: Rob Bell's "Love Wins"

MrLuke | | , Blogging
So the other night I decided to try get into this whole twitter thing. Yes, I know it's been around forever now but I never really "got it" and just stuck with Facebook. So I go on twitter and discover the trending topics and see a familiar name at the top of the list: Rob Bell. Now I do like Rob Bell and his nooma series etc so I decided to check it out and found what I wish I didn't.. Hate. Lots and lots of hating going on from so-called christians about Rob Bell and his new unreleased book about heaven and hell called: "Love Wins: A Book About Heaven, Hell, and the Fate of Every Person Who Ever Lived". The marketing makes it sound sensational and a very brief video from Rob Bell poses some provoking questions but nothing says what he actually thinks or believes, yet everyone on the twittersphere is yelling condemnation and heresy!! It's no wonder the world sees the Church in a bad light. Here's the article and video that has been retweeted a bajillion times already: http://ow.ly/445Q5...

It's pretty much a way of mocking and having a laugh at our own expense! The coming comics are then the product of my boredom in certain lectures at my university, Mattersey Hall, where the rest of the stories are set. I've also updated the Gallery page of my site so that browsing through photos should be easier now!www.lukewilsonphotography.co.nr...

Photos now available as prints!

Yes that's right, a selection of good quailty photos are now availble to buy as prints in various sizes and also with the option to frame them or have them printed on canvas! For people in the UK, check out the UK gallery here: http://www.photoboxgallery.com/mrlukeAnd for those in the US, check out this gallery instead: http://mrluke.imagekind.com/showcase(the US gallery will be updated to have the same selection of photos as the UK one soon!)The reason for the two different ones is purely for post and packaging costs, otherwise there would be really high P+P costs to get prints shipped from the US to UK and vice versa.-Enjoy!...

Jo_Mo (42) Originally uploaded by MrLuke. Last Thursday I did my first "proper" photoshoot with a friend of mine from college. I've never done photos like this before with people, so it was more for practise to see how things would turn out, and I think they came out pretty well! Had some good feedback at lease from the selection I've shown to people!Check out the full set on Flickr: Joanne Molineaux ShootHopefully soon some of these will be available as prints to buy if people are interested.-Enjoy!...
